2018-07-16 Charity’s First Haircut

And she did it again! She almost cut her ponytail clean off (under the band!). It was time we fixed it, as well as Griffin’s from a couple months ago. (He cut it off to the scalp in the front!) so haircuts all around.

2018-07-15 Happy Birthday, Lincoln!

Lincoln had so many people over to celebrate with him for his birthday! Can’t believe he’s 9! He’s a book-loving boy with a huge imagination. I love that kid.

2018-07-13 “Steel Magnolias”

A few of us from SGCS Choir (plus Jenn & another friend!) went to the play “Steel Magnolias” out in Kayenta last Friday for a girl’s night. We went to support another member of the Chamber Singers, Rachel Cox. I loved it! That end scene had us all teary eyed! Glad I got to go.

2018-07-11 Veyo Crawdad Canyon & Pool

Veyo Crawdad Canyon and Pool were definitely a hit this past Wednesday for nature school. Some of the children’s grandpa came and talked about living on the river and all about crawdads. Then we cooked a bunch on site and dipped them in butter to eat! I got over myself and help crack them open, too. 😜 Swimming at the pool was fun, too.

2018-07-11 Alpine Pond Trail, Cedar Breaks

We (Charity, Lincoln, & I) drove up to Cedar Breaks National Monument with a friend and her two daughters. We met a homeschool group to hike the “Alpine Pond Trail” there. SO nice to get out of the heat! The 2-mile trail was at 10,000+ feet, so it felt hard even though it was short! (Particularly for Lincoln...)

Fields and fields of wildflowers! So pretty.

Lunch break πŸ˜‹

Lincoln wasn’t very happy to be there, so besides the first picture, this is all I got. 🀷‍♀️

2018-07-09 Webb Hill

Our kids are driving us crazy staying up late every single night. πŸ€ͺ So I am going to run them ragged by waking them up early for the next week. I started this morning at 6:30... “It’s time to go! Go to the bathroom, socks, shoes, water bottle!” Part of the way up I decided I didn’t want my kids to end up hating hiking, so I promised $5 for anyone who beat me up to the top... which they all did so now I’m out $25. 🀷‍♀️

2018-07-06 Skimboard Park with Ashley

Still learning the skill of skimboarding... but having fun in the water! Pictures and videos are all that’s needed! (Lincoln stayed back at Ashley’s house to play Legos.. and convinced Jet to stay back, too. Stinker.)

2018-07-04 Independence Day

We went to House of Jump for a few hours in the afternoon during the heat, to which Jesse said, “That was the stupidest $54 I’ve ever spent,” not because we didn’t have fun, because Jesse probably tore his ACL! He under-jumped and landed on a bar. Ouch.

We went to a neighborhood pool party, watched an amazing firework show put on by a different neighbor, and then came back to the house to finish with our “That’s it?!” fireworks. Next year- do personal fireworks, AKA lame fireworks, on July 3rd to offset the fact that we aren’t spending in the thousands!

2018-07-02 This book has changed my life!

Interactive screen time... sounds harmless, right? If anything, educational and mind engaging and not as lazy as passive screen time... or is it?

In as little time as ONE week, my children have changed. All from removing interactive screen time. Really?! What is wrong with computer time / iPad or tablet time / non-violent video games?

Our kids have had to earn their screen time, and when they get it, they only got 30 minutes maximum daily. A little extra on Saturday, and none on Sunday. I didn’t think that little amount of screen time could be so damaging. Yes, I said damaging. As in the following:
  • Aggressive and/or violent behavior
  • Mood swings
  • Age inappropriate tantrums
  • Inability to focus
  • Poor sleep
  • ... plus much more!
Anyway... this book has been an answer to much prayer over my children. Thank you, @simplyonpurpose Ralphie Jacobs for introducing it to me! πŸ’• You have saved my family!
