2018-07-02 Describe My Kids

This should be interesting to read in 10 or so years, right? 😊

Lincoln. Creative, loves building things (blocks, Legos, sand castles, etc), strong sense of fairness and right/wrong, honest, doesn’t like to be yelled at, loves reading, short temper, aggressive, fatigues easily (1/4 mile into a hike... “my legs hurt”), bossy, loves babies and small children, elephants, pretend play especially with stuffed animals, jokes & riddles, sweet singing voice but “hates singing” (he is singing made up songs as he plays Legos right now), playing with friends, especially cousins Jet & Jack, loves showing off facts he’s learned, playing with and building cars.

Parker. Recently found a love for reading (thank you, Stuart Little, Indian in the Cupboard, & Fantastic Mr. Fox), loves soft and fuzzy things such as his blanket, loves pretend play with stuffed animals and gives names to them (Fuzzy Head, Bear-y, Mr. Baby Dinosaur, Gus Gus, Nellie, etc...), loves outdoor play, particularly exploration, adventure, & building things like forts with raw materials, climbing trees & boulders & tall structures, super sensitive to personal attacks, plays well with others & makes friends easily..but expects them to initiate play, loves music (piano & singing), cooking, swimming, penguins and buffalos, riding, animals (cats & dogs), fast runner.

Griffin. Loves routine and expectations and completing tasks, green, alligators, great need for physical manifestations of love (hugs, kisses, lots of talks, etc), hikes, wears his heart on his sleeve—you always know how he’s feeling!—never a mystery, big emotions, building blocks & train tracks, wants lots of friends but has a hard time playing nice (usually hurts others accidentally), strong sense of fairness & right/wrong & feels guilty very easily, quickly recognizes when he’s done something wrong, loves reading, outer order and cleanliness, loves music particularly singing, riding bikes, deep and inquisitive thinker, living room dance parties, loves learning and is persistent mastering new skills.

Oliver. Silly, loves to laugh and make others laugh, loves to serve, obedient, Legos, people pleaser, red and rhinos, loves playing with older boys (especially Parker), sensitive to sin (cries when I yell unrighteously), artistically talented (drawing, painting, handwriting), ball sports (baseball, basketball), riding bikes, usually very chill and easy going, but occasionally is very headstrong about something seemingly insignificant, has a difficult time with reading comprehension yet can focus and respond to audio.

Charity. Loves all things girly (dance, princesses, dresses, makeup, pink & purple.. and yellow and blue), kitty cats & dogs, riding bikes, loves talking to people especially on the phone, loves funny over pretty, performing and being center stage, singing and music, babysitters, & older girls, reading (both when I read aloud and learning to read), coloring and cutting and gluing, her voice!—and facial expressions, hugs and kisses and cuddling, easily and routinely compliments others, plays well with others—loves to play especially with cousins Cora and Ada and Pearl, swimming, yogurt & pizza, sneaky and a difficult time with honesty.

2018-06-26 Party!

Charity’s friend from Sunbeams had a birthday! This is just a watermelon half (pre-sliced) and covered in whip cream. Perfect for a hot morning at the splash pad.

2018-06-27 Style

My kids love slip on shoes. Even if it means we are headed to the pool and it’s snow boots. 🀷‍♀️

2018-06-28 Chatting with Charity

I love watching videos of my kids when they were younger. I especially love hearing their little voices. Here’s Charity. Multiple attempts at getting her to tell me something that wasn’t morbid (“Once upon a time, Dad went on a walk and got hit by a car and died.” 🀨).

2018-06-29 Canyon Nature Park

Nature School Co-op was near Cedar City, just up the canyon at Canyon Nature Park. Jenna’s friend, CJ, taught us about survival packs and reptiles. We played in the river afterwards. Such a nice break from the heat!

February 1-28

Baby Shower for Joni! Fifth baby, but first boy! (She's in a white cardigan sweater)

I love Benja's Tom Kha Ghai soup. So yummy! πŸ˜‹

Tough Kids Bike Race

Griffin on his Strider

Oliver on his tricycle

Parker (front) Ezra (left) and Connor (back)

Go Parker!

Charity and Pearl, best friends πŸ‘

Lincoln!

Only in St. George - warm enough for popsicles in February!

Charity LOVED holding Brit's baby, Wes. He's almost bigger than you, sweetheart!

My cuddle bug

(insert motorcycle noise)

Play group Valentine's party. I volunteered to bring a craft. It was a bit of a test to see how the 2nd grade class would do... πŸ˜†

We made bird-feeders out of pipe cleaners (in heart shape) and Froot Loops threaded on. They made kind of a giant mess in the Cultural Hall at the church... oops. We vacuumed.

Republican Party dinner party with Danesh D'Souza (sp?). He was a great motivational speaker. Very interesting point of view.

Parker makin' dinner. Griffin watching.

Happy 6th Birthday, Parker! You are a mini Jesse and I adore you. Thank you for all your spunk and the spirit you add to our home.

He got his very own box of mints! (I keep these mints in my car at all times... they know they only get one, but somehow they are magical and help them behave for me. "If you can stay close to the grocery cart the whole time in the store, you can have a mint when we get back to the car." Magic.)

Parade of Homes. Our current table is too small for us all... I would love this one or something similar. Anyone know where I can find it reasonably priced?

Another Parade Home...

Steam shower (I can dream, right?!)

They are always creating... something...

Sabrina tended my kids and later sent me this picture. I wonder what others thought of her! I love how we live so close so our kids can get to know each other. Thanks, Sabrina!

January 1-31

We printed out 22 pages of coloring pages to build our own Christmas tree. When I was in the middle of taking it down and planning to throw it away, my kids were devastated! It's paper! I guess some of those pages they worked on for a long time. So we compromised... I took a picture. They were satisfied. :)

No school... visit to Vegas and "Gravady" with cousins!

Charity's favorite part

I can get half way across on the slack line! Here's Parker (using the rope assist)

So brave!

On the trapeze cloth thing together: twins!

My onion thief at it once again...

Snow in St. George!

Enough for a snowman. :)

My niece, Rose, gave us all a scare. She was involved in a freak accident and was life-flighted to Primary Children's in SLC. Lincoln, Parker, and I were able to drive up and visit her and Angela and Tom. Miracles... surgery and no complications. I believe in the power of prayer. Such a sweet little girl!

Finally feeling better!

Oliver being silly... again...

Griffin and his curls (before I gave him a haircut)

Charity wanted in on the silliness!

After 2 years as Secretary for the Young Women, I was asked to serve in the Relief Society, as 2nd Counselor. I was overwhelmed at first. I remember the (totally ridiculous) thoughts that started to flood my mind... "I can't even keep my bathrooms clean! How can I be an example of a 'proper' Mormon mom?" I quickly realized that callings are not issued to "perfect people": rather, they are given to help perFECT the saints.

I am over the Relief Society Quarterly Activities. Our goal is to do 6 per year, so slightly more often than quarterly. Our first activity was at the beginning of January, so we wanted it focused on setting goals and becoming our best selves: "Stop Wishing & Start Doing!" A dear sister, Patsy, spoke to us and did a fantastic job. We had a couple little videos to go along with her message. It turned out well!

Library time... Lincoln got his own library card and then checked out 16 Magic Tree House Books. (He read maybe half.)

Looks like a reception? Virginia is so good at decorating. This was our first funeral as a presidency.

Sweet, Claudia Owens

Tricycles... Charity is a natural.

Potty training time!

Movie night... can you tell 4/5 are all laying across my body?

Potty training success! Reward? Her very own makeup and makeup bag.

Griffin and Oliver wanted to try some on, too. πŸ˜‚

My visiting teacher, Shannon, came over to tend for me. She taught my kids how to do the splits. They practice often!

At the new "All Abilities" park near Tonaquint. Ashley was in town and so we got some cousin time in!

The ladies in the RS Presidency with me are all so sweet. Brenda made us each a set of wooden decorative letters with the theme we chose for this year: Joy in the Journey. I love the pink! 😍
